1961 to 1973 Potrero Hill was my home. Teachers impressed with us kids as we lived on State streets. We lived at 912 Connecticut and later 3 bedroom at 1710 25th Street. It was hard but what could mama do after getting divorced. Got a good job and tried to fet to live with me in a home. She liked the Projects. Eventually i moved my family to Northern California. Mama did her best RIP.

Hello everybody! You should be really really careful about your hair style. I am not personally offended by the Asian girl sitting at the table with that braid in her hair, but I know a girl with a different skin color than hers, and in my friend’s culture: they only put a similar braid in their hair for certain occasions. And I know my friend would be really really hurt to see somebody casually wearing that braid in her hair, knowing and disrespecting my friend’s culture or ESPECIALLY if the Asian girl didn’t know anything about my friend’s culture but didn’t have enough consideration to even just Google “large single braid across forehead” and scroll down 11 pages to find the link to the article in which my friend’s culture is described, in which this particular ceremony is vividly described in the seventh paragraph with a link to a photograph of the ORIGINAL scrolls describing the rigorous customs and traditions (INCLUDING specific hairstyles for each of the several sacred ceremonies) written in my friend’s beautiful unspoken long ago forgotton but intuitive ancient native hyroglyphic language. I actually think the braid looks cool and I too like trying different hair styles often myself, and I support the girl wearing her hair in almost any way. But I just hope my friend never sees this girl wearing that big braid in her hair over her forehead because I hate when my friend gets upset when she sees people who don’t have exactly the same shade of skin tone as she does, trying the hair style her culture wears on special occasions. My friend has a tendency to look at every passing person’s hair, then if their hair looks similar to any if the hair styles used in ceremonies in my friend’s ancient culture, my friend tries to visually discern if the skin tone of the person who styled her her hair in one of these sacred fashions matches my friend’s skin tone. And if not: my friend will try to stop the person, and do whatever she can to try to get that person distracted from whatever they MEANT to focus on that day, then get them to think only about their hair style... if she had her way the offending person wouldn’t just get distracted for a few minutes: they would think about every hair style they ever attempt, every morning, for the rest of their lives, wondering if some girl is going to stop them and distract them from whatever they were planning to do that day in order to get them to cease and desist from ever wearing that particular hair style. Just a head’s up ! Oh one more rule to be aware of: the offending person must have a different skin color, but it doesn’t matter what color the offending hair style is: the way the hair is tied or braided or knotted or cut or straightened DOES matter but it can be ANY color and my friend will still be offended unless their skin tone matches hers. So: skin tone important. Hair tone: not important. Hair shape/style: important. It doesn’t ALWAYS work: sometimes the offending person actually knows exactly why they chose their particular hair style, and if they can explain to my friend the tribe and tradition and approximate century of origination, AND if the tradition dates back far enough to pre-date the origination of my friend’s culture, my friend will sometimes let the offending person continue with no further distraction, unless my friend knows the average skin tone of said tribe and if her skin tone matches the skin tone of the average sample of said ancient tribe more closely than the skin tone of the offender: sometimes that can lead to further complications from my friend. I know this seems confusing but I just was trying to help. I didn’t write the rules: I’m just passing them on to you. By the way: Most of the other decendants of my friend’s ancient foremothers (maybe all of them?) aren’t so discerning. In fact, they think my friend is off her rockers. But it doesn’t matter! Because the final rule I will mention is that if any member of the culture is offended, it doesn’t matter what the vast majority of the other members think. So again: like I said in the beginning - please be very very careful when chosing your hair style each morning. Interestingly enough: my friend thought Katie Perry looked great in that Chinese ceremonial dress. My friend only worries about hair styles! She gets super offended when people try to act like certain clothes should be off limits, as she is an artist and fashion designer and strongly feels that clothing is a form of free expression. Go figure! Okay buh bye now. Have a great day :)
